Firm Foundations and First Steps in the Nursery are the initial programmes of this successful approach, including Breaking Barriers for students with high learning (and/or special) needs
First Steps in the Nursery is an early childhood programme.
Firm Foundations - for children aged 4-5 at early childhood and Year 0- New Entrants.
Breaking Barriers - a differentiated programme of Firm Foundations, Numicon 1, 2 and 3 NPC and GMS written specifically for students with learning and or special needs. It is best used in tandem with Numicon FF and 1-3 in a general classroom setting. BB is suitable for any student working at Pre-level One to Level Two of the NZ Curriculum, ready for Numicon 3.

Number, Pattern and Calculating (NPC) are combined with Geometry, Measurement and Statistics (GMS) to make a complete programme for Mathematics.

Long and medium term planning charts, overview of the activity groups, 30 activity groups arranged by strand, photocopy masters to accompany the activity groups, and guide to linking the strands, Explorer Progress and Explore More activities)
Explore More- offer the students the opportunity for children to discuss and practise mathematics with their parent or carer, or as a classroom activity. There are copymasters for 30 activities provided for each of the activity groups. It is another layer of 'generalising' learning- key in any learning!
Pupil Books - 15 per classroom enable paried activities of investigations and problem-solving for deeper thinking and applications. An Answer Book is provided. For Numicon 3 - 6. All strands are covered in this one book.
Explore Progress Books – ASSESSMENT booklets offer the children the opportunity to use the mathematics they have been learning in each activity group. There is one set of books a, b, c, - covering all 30 of the learning activity groups for each student to provide a clear cumulative assessment to students, the families and teachers demonstrating progress at the end of each activity group.
These are priced cheaper than photocopying costs! In the Teaching Handbook and on Oxford Owl there is an Assessment Grid to help you record progress and monitor their achievements.
