Numicon links with the New Zealand Curriculum

  • Download the Mapping Tool here
  • It's important to follow the Numicon Teaching Progressions.
  • The Teaching Progressions are designed for each week to build on the previous week's learning AND to build in all the strands for children to make connections in maths. This is a spiralling sequence.
  • The list of Learning Outcomes in the Curriculum are not in teaching sequence order throughout the year. It's just a list.
  • The Teaching Sequence on Oxford Owl is inserted with hyperlinks to the Overview in the first column and the Lessons in the second column. The Overview also includes the links to the lessons.

Numicon 6 NZ Version Year 8
For students beginning with Numicon as Year 7's or 8's
For the students are still at the old Level 1 and 2, use the previous years teaching which is available in the whole school subscription as a catch-up. This will enable them to jump into Numicon 5 and onwards...
The teaching sequence has been designed to enable a revision of earlier concepts to provide a foundation for the learning at the expected curriculum levels within reason.
At this level, you will have a wide range of ability.  Your top flyers may want to continue on their journey from previous years.
