Students make considerable progress in their first year of implementing the Numicon Approach.  Familiarity brings even greater result the following years.

New Entrants and Year 1 students should work on Firm Foundations for a year or most of the year before moving onto Numicon 1 in Year 2 - achieving Level 1 of the NZ Curriculum.

If students in the following years continue in this progress, by the end of Year 6 they will have completed Level 3 of the curriculum. By year 7 they will be working at Level 4 of the Curriculum on Numicon 6.

During a typical implementation of Numicon, it takes three full years to achieve the levels the matching levels of the NZ Curriculum. The Year 8 students often benefit from a repeat and extension of Numicon 6 using Discovering Mathematics.
