Kit One-One-to-one - Numicon New Zealand

The activities in this kit build on the Foundation Stage activities and are suitable for pupils learning addition and subtraction up to 100,the number system and the clock. Equivalent to Level 1 of the NZ curriculum.

The Kit 1 Activities enable consolidated learning of essential number bonds to ten, understanding of place value and equivalence. With Numicon pupils have insights which clear early misconceptions and the self-correcting activities boost their self-esteem. Key mathematical ideas are explained in the Teaching Guide which offers ideas for organization and assessment. The teaching programme is on 26 illustrated activity cards and the order for teaching the activities is shown on a planning chart, activities should be broken down into smaller steps as necessary for the learner. To broaden pupil’s concept image of number we recommend introduction of that number rods although for very challenged pupils it may be helpful to use only Numicon shapes.
