Numicon at Home

As we know, children’s early experiences at home and school have a huge impact on their later achievement in maths.

We have worked carefully to create a fun and yet meaningful programme for children whether they be at home or school in their learning of Mathematics. Language ideas are supported with 'conversation' ideas and hands-on activities.

1st Steps with Numicon at Home  and  1st Steps with Numicon in the Nursery provide families and Early Childhood Centres with wonderful hands-on activities that give children a sound start to their understanding of maths and boosts the adult's subject knowledge.

Gifted and Talented- Investigations with Numicon

Numicon Shapes and Number Rods are used as a starting point to allow the majority of pupils to be involved at a basic level. However the activities have been design as open-ended investigations and give plenty of opportunity for gifted and talented children to develop their skills and the take the challenges to higher levels. Students from 8-12 years old really enjoy this set of activities that lead them into higher thinking about maths.

The activities in this NEW kit are designed at a low threshold and extend into activities that will satisfy children up 12 years of age.

    Remediation

Numicon is ideal to use with small groups or individual in a remedial maths programme.  The activities are fun and meaningful and assessment supports so easy and effective to use.  Long term gains are well-documented internationally from many private and sponsored studies. Begin at Closing the Gap or Kit One.

    Special Needs
Numicon’s small steps teaching programme with its use of strong visual imagery and the emphasis on pattern and language is proving successful for pupils who are experiencing difficulty including those who have special needs. The students typically work through the same activities but at a pace that suits them.  Many students will take 2 or more years to complete each kit programme. The recall of facts will vary, but a growing confidence in number and solving problems will provide a meaningful introduction to the use of the calculator. We have loan kits available for families and schools to use for 3 months. Click here for more information.
